Ocoee River Release Schedule 2026

The Ocoee River is divided into two main rafting sections: the Upper Ocoee and the Middle Ocoee. Both sections are regulated by dams that follow a yearly water-release schedule, providing a consistent and reliable flow of water throughout the rafting season. Because the river is dam-controlled, water levels are not dependent on rainfall, which means we can count on steady conditions that are ideal for whitewater rafting and trip planning.

The Ocoee River is controlled by three dams: Ocoee Dam #1 (Lower Ocoee), Ocoee Dam #2 (Middle Ocoee), and Ocoee Dam #3 (Upper Ocoee). These dams are operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which determines when and where water is released. These scheduled releases make whitewater rafting possible for the public while maintaining dependable river conditions.

During the main rafting season - between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend - the Middle section of the Ocoee River runs every day except Tuesday and Wednesday. That means you can raft one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the United States on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday throughout the summer.

The Upper section of the Ocoee River - famous for hosting the whitewater events during the 1996 Summer Olympics - has scheduled water release on Saturdays and Sundays only. The Upper Ocoee River is only run in conjunction with the Middle Ocoee River for a Full River (Upper and Middle Combo Trip). If you want to conquer our incredible Full River Trip (rafting both the Upper and Middle Ocoee in one adventure), you’ll need to join us on a Saturday or Sunday.
