Whitewater Rafting
Safety and Liability

Ocoee River SafetyThe Ocoee Rafting staff and guides make every reasonable effort to assure you and your party a safe rafting experience. Each guide is trained and certified in First Aid and CPR. However, the sport of whitewater rafting has inherent risks and dangers that are beyond human control and must be assumed by the participant. We do not assume liability for personal injuries or death. All participants and guests must agree to travel at their own risk and are required to sign a waiver of liability/assumption of risk document prior to the trip. For the safety of all, the use of alcohol or drugs before or during river trips is strictly prohibited. We will remove anyone under the influence of these substances from the trip and no refund will be given. The Tennessee State Parks department requires all rafters on the Ocoee to be at least 12 years of age.

Other things you will need to know

Ocoee Rafting will provide all necessary equipment, life jackets, helments and paddles for each participant. All rafts used for whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River are 6 man rafts and they are self-bailing rafts. Clothing recommened for warm weather is bathing suits, quick-dry shorts a tank or t-shirt, strap on sandals, water shoes or tennis shoes. For cool weather any under armour garments or wool and synthetic clothes are recommended, cotton items are not ideal for rafting, they do not dry quick and they are heavy when wet. Splash jackets are available for rainy or cold weather. Also for your convenience, we have clean, newly remodeled showers and changing facilities. The only items you will need to bring is a dry change of clothes, a towel and shower items.

We have a coffee, smoothie shop that has all types of drinks, bakery items, sandwiches and chips available in the peak season. We also have picnic tables available for those that want to bring a lunch for before or after the trip.

Due to the nature of this business it is hard to stay on a precise schedule therefore there is a chance that trips can be delayed.  With this in mind we recommend that you arrive no more than 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled trip time. This will give everyone enough time to get to the restrooms and changing rooms and be ready to check in at your scheduled trip time. We open our office for check-in 10 to 15 minutes before the trip time so arriving any before this could result in a long wait period.  It is also very important not to be late: anyone that is more than 20 minutes late will miss the trip and we regret we cannot give refunds or reschedule for missed trips.  Please remember we are in the Eastern Time Zone and again it is important to arrive on time; please don't arrive too early or to late.
